About my Curriculum

Daily Rhythm

The Daily Rhythm is our schedule. I  like to use the term rhythm as it relates to the flow of our day. It also relates to the seasons and weather patterns because the schedule or rhythm may change depending on outside variables.

Circle Time

We start our day with circle time including songs, movement and a story (based on our theme and/or with Montessori)

Work Time

This is time in the morning dedicated to Montessori-inspired activities. These activities are similar to what is found in mainstream educational classrooms, but they are more hands-on and child centered. Children choose the activity or work, they'd like to work on. Most of these activities are self correcting and individual instruction is given if needed.

Living Text

I chose these stories based on Charlotte Mason teachings. Many of these stories are moral based and teach a lesson. Emotions and habits are also discussed.

Blessings/Thankfulness

I spend time before each meal talking about our blessings. We write them down and each child has an opportunity to share what they are grateful for as well.

Creative play

During quiet time, children who do not nap play with Waldorf-inspired toys such as open-ended toys or dramatic play. Children who nap also have an opportunity to do so upon waking. I also read a Waldorf-inspired story out loud during this time. These are usually folk tales, fairy tales or imaginary. I also include forms of storytelling during this time

Process Art

I focus on art process rather than the product. This means that my focus is more on technique and the experience of art rather than the product. I also focus on art appreciation so your child will be exposed to a wide range of art form, (Not just the cute Pinterest-worthy crafts you may expect). I do however try to do at least two or three crafty art products a month.

Music and multicultural activities

Each month, we focus on a different culture or country. I include activities and music related to our monthly them. These may include crafts, pictures, music, art, food, books or other related experiences.

Lost/life skills

Throughout the day, I try to include life skills into our daily rhythm. These include skills like housework  (laundry, window washing, dishwashing by hand, setting a table), sewing skills, baking, cooking, and simple maintenance work. Some of these are included into our "work" time and others into the natural rhythm of clean-up, cooking etc.

Outdoor/Nature Time

I have assigned time each day for outdoor play. We are fortunate to have ample space to play and explore. Some of the adventures your child will find include nature walks, participation in vegetable gardens, outdoor play areas, flower and fairy gardens, fruit picking, water play, gross motor sport games, etc.

MN Standards

My curriculum in intentionally designed to meet the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (MN Standards). I regularly observe and record areas of strength and what your child is working on.
